01 / CAPOEIRA BALI
ROOTS, EXPERIENCE & CULTURAL CONNECTION
Kenoko Hermiaji
Noko began capoeira in 2000 in Yogyakarta while studying at Gadjah Mada University. Inspired by the movements in the film Only the Strong, he became a founding member of Capoeira Brincadeira, now Senzala Indonesia.
In 2006, he moved to Bali and established Senzala Bali with Rod Penn (Medusa). Together they organised Bali’s first international capoeira event in December 2007, welcoming Mestre Gato and Mestre Ousado.
Invited to Brazil by Mestre Caca of Escola Cultural Zungu Capoeira in 2008, Noko continued his studies there in 2009 and 2011, including a workshop with Mestre João Grande. He has since shared capoeira through training and workshops across Asia, and continues to represent Zungu in Bali.
02 / CAPOEIRA BALI
MOVEMENT, MUSICALITY & PLAY
Chairil Anwar
Chairil was among Bali’s earliest capoeiristas, practising with the community in Renon, Denpasar, from its early days in 2004. His dedication quickly made him a skilful practitioner.
He joined Rod and Noko’s school after it opened in 2006, deepening his understanding of the art. Known to students as Superman, he brings energy to training through his musicality and singing.
His natural connection with children and playful teaching style make him a much-loved presence in the kids’ classes.

DEDICATION, FLOW & SHARED GROWTH
Mujahidin Ahmad
Deden began capoeira around 2010 in Mataram, Lombok. What started as an interest in acrobatics became a lasting commitment to the whole art.
As one of the youngest pioneers of capoeira in Mataram, he actively cared for classes and training before Noko invited him to join the Capoeira Bali team in 2017.
He teaches children and adults and has earned the graduado level from Mestre Caca of Escola Cultural Zungu Capoeira, Brazil—a recognition of years of dedication and practice.
